My Video “Bajo El Sol” is Featured on NPR’s Alt.Latino

So excited and honored to have been featured on NPR’s Alt. Latino a few weeks ago!

This year NPR held another Tiny Desk Concert contest to invite musicians to submit videos performing an original song behind or near a desk. I was one of the 6,100 musicians who submitted. This time, my friend and film maker Cristina Isabel Rivera and I went up to Mount Tamalpais, California to film my new song “Bajo el Sol”.  This song is a love letter to my homeland and an homage to all those who have left their country of origin and who, despite of how dark things can be back home, are counting the days until they can see it again.

A translation from one of the verses:

“I know your body is gray but I can see the little light that still shines on, my dear and wounded lightning bug. I am coming to you soon and when I do, we will help each other heal our wounds, we will bathe in the sun of your truth”.

The winner of the contest was Gaelynn Lea, a woman who has been playing violin for more than 20 years and builds on a repertoire of traditional Celtic and American fiddle music. She’s also a dedicated fiddle teacher and an advocate for artists and other people with disabilities. You can watch her video here.
